Frequently Asked Questions Why can't I find the book I'm looking for?
If you search for a title or author and can't find it, try going to your settings and change the availability to Suggestions for Library. This will show you what's available from cloudLibrary and let you place a purchase request. If we're able to buy the ebook, it will be put on hold for you. (If you still can't find it in Suggestions for Library, this means that the publisher of the book did not make an ebook version available to cloudLibrary.) Why is there a due date for ebooks? It seems like if it's not a real book that's in someone's hands, there shouldn't be a due date! However, book publishers want to protect their sales, and so they place limits on library usage. This includes a one-copy/one-use license, so that we can't let unlimited people read an ebook while only paying for a single copy. Ebooks check out and we have waiting lists for popular titles, just like a physical book. What's the difference between ebook providers? What about Libby?
There are many different ebook providers for libraries to choose from. cloudLibrary is from Bibliotheca and offered what Chandler Library wanted for our patrons. The Libby app is from Overdrive and available from Tempe Public Library and Greater Phoenix Digital Library. Many Chandler Library card holders also have cards with other area libraries, including some that offer Libby, to maximize their library access! What about Kindle e-readers?
Kindle black-and-white readers use Amazon's proprietary ebook format, and to date, Amazon has not given Bibliotheca permission to use that format. Unfortunately, this means cloudLibrary ebooks are not available for use on Kindle e-readers. We'll be happy to help you access cloudLibrary ebooks on a different device such as iPhone or computer. What if I need more help?
