Chandler Public Library was busy helping community members over the holiday season! We provided holiday cards to assisted living facilities through a Grab and Go kit. Chandler Library patrons and students at Summit Academy in Mesa picked up 200 kits, then used these take-home supplies to make 254 cards that we distributed to the seniors. Our Chandler Giving Tree stood in the lobby of the Downtown Library during December, giving our patrons an opportunity to donate items for people experiencing homelessness. Over 1400 items were donated, including blankets, clothing and toiletries, and we assembled 141 gift bags for our unhoused neighbors. These gift bags also featured holiday cards created by library patrons of all ages during our Holiday Cards for the Homeless program, which produced 83 cards. We're not slowing down in the new year! The next session of our Citizenship Workshop starts Feb. 10, with weekly discussions for adults who want to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship interview and oral examination. Chandler Library is also taking part in Chandler's Multicultural Festival with two special events (including a fashion show you can take part in!) as well as continuing our Nature of Things series of contemporary science programs in collaboration with the Chandler Nature Center. Friends of Chandler Public Library is also making it easy for the community to give back by donating gently used books to a good cause! See the details on these special community events below. |
